Catherine McAuley Hub Chaplaincy

Week 34: Missionary Discipleship 30/06/25

Attention!

The chaplaincy team will be coming around form rooms on Tuesday and Wednesday to ask you to sign the Cards for Bishop Patrick – the information and reasoning why is on Day 3 – Hands, but we need the cards by the end of Wednesday to take to Bishop’s Day on Thursday!

Missionary Discipleship is the call to share our faith with others. Missionary Discipleship reminds us that we must go out and share the love of Christ with others, to make the world a better place. Missionary Discipleship is a way of life that is full of joy and hope and in living our life in this way we can bring others to encounter Christ through us.

Day 1 – Head

On the first day of our prayer we will be reflecting on The Word of God to help us to understand our theme.

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

We have here a reading from John’s Gospel, when Jesus is talking to His disciples, and we will pick up on three of the themes from it.

In this passage, Jesus does three things.

Firstly, He explains what he wants His disciples to do, He gives them His commandment, and gives them a promise:

You are my friends if you do what I command you.

John 15:14 ESVUK

Secondly, He invites them into a relationship with Him. His teachings are never to be left as just teachings, they are the path to becoming His friends and to change our lives.

Thirdly, Jesus sends His disciples out to spread His word. He gives His teachings and relationship with Him, so that we may go out and share the joy of knowing Him with others.

Let us pray,

Dear Lord,
We thank you for giving us your Word that we may know you more
We thank you for inviting us into relationship with you that we may love you more
We thank you for sending us out that we may do your will
Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Day 2 – Heart

On the second day of the week we focus on our hearts. How can the scripture that we looked at previously impact our lives, and the lives of others? What themes can we draw from the scripture?

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Our Bishop, Bishop Patrick McKinney, has picked three themes to form the Spiritual Foundation of our Diocese; Encounter, Discipleship, and Missionary Discipleship.

This extract is from Bishop Patrick’s Pastoral Letter where he set these themes out:

First of all, encounter: I would like to ensure that people of all ages in our parishes, schools, and chaplaincies are helped to discover, or discover more deeply, the importance of a personal encounter with Christ; so that they can become convinced that they are each loved by God and are invited to grow in their relationship with him. In particular I would like to see the development of times of Eucharistic Adoration in our parishes, schools and chaplaincies.

‍

Secondly, discipleship: because of that personal encounter with Christ, I would like to encourage each of us to hear and respond to his invitation to be his disciples, to follow him more closely, and to seek to serve him generously in our daily lives.

‍

Thirdly, Missionary Discipleship: that, with a greater recognition of, and openness to, the help, guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we can all become missionary disciples; faith-filled, joyful and outward-looking Christians who are growing in confidence to speak humbly of the difference that knowing Christ makes to our lives, and who bear witness to His love in our service of our brothers and sisters, especially those most in need. The service to which Christ calls us is always the action of the Holy Spirit working in us.

Right Reverend Patrick McKinney
Pastoral Letter: Encounter, Discipleship, and Missionary Discipleship

Here at Trinity School, we feel we line our priorities up with Bishop Patrick but use some slightly shorter words to convey they meaning:

We use our Head, our Heart, and our Hands every day to learn and draw closer to Jesus.

So today, let us pray for God to guide our Head, our Heart, and our Hands:

Let us pray,

Dear Lord,
Guide our head that we may know you more
Guide our heart that we may love you more
Guide our hands that we may do your will
Today and every day
Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Day 3: Hands

On the final day of the week we try to put into action the things we have learnt and reflected on previously in the week, hence the hands link!

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Mission:

This week, 3rd July is Bishop’s day, the anniversary of Bishop Patrick’s instalment as bishop. It is also the 10th Anniversary, so this week, we are going to ask you all to sign a card for the Bishop!

One card per year group will make it’s way around your form groups for you to sign. Each form group will have one page in the card to sign and decorate.

Please do add the names of everyone in your form, but if you have extra space you can decorate it as you like!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
