Week 5 2023/24

Day 1 -Head

We begin our prayer today with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy spirit, Amen.

Today we think about all those who are struggling with their mental health, those who are alone, those who are afraid, those who are vulnerable. On Tuesday of this week it is Mental Health Awareness Day, hence our focus.

When we are alone or afraid or vulnerable we can turn to the Lord for guidance comfort and strength. We are going to hear some scripture from the book of Psalms. The book of Psalms is a book containing songs that would have been sung to teach others about God. The Jewish people would have sung these songs to give themselves hope and comfort during their troubling times of traveling to the promised land or waiting to be saved.

A reading from the book of Psalms.

God is our shelter and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken
    and mountains fall into the ocean depths;
even if the seas roar and rage,
and the hills are shaken by the violence.

The word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

This scripture tells us all that when times get tough, God is always with us. He is there to strengthen and protect us and to keep us safe. The scripture also tells us to not be afraid no matter what we face. We face many struggles in our lives and especially this week we think about those who face struggle due to mental health.

As humans, we are always going to have emotions and feelings to try and understand. The original Jewish people singing the psalms used these as a way to combat their fears, to pass on stories about the wonder of God and to remind each other of the strength of their faith. It was a way of asking God to be with them, and telling Him that they were there and listening.

Lets ask God to stay by our side as we say the Our Father together.

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

If you are struggling with your mental health and feel ready to speak to someone, there are posters around school with the names of the Mental Health First Aiders on. These people have been on specific training to make sure that they can best support those struggling with their mental health.

Day 2 – Heart

We begin our prayer today with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy spirit, Amen.

This week we have been focusing on mental health and how God is always with us. The focus for World Mental Health Day this year is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’. Everyone can struggle with their mental health and understanding their feelings, no matter what their life situation might be, and it is important that we understand that everyone deserves support.

God is always speaking to us but sometimes our lives get in the way and we struggle to hear His messages. Watch this video that shows us a bit more how we don’t take time to speak to God about our issues.

The video shows us that God is always ready to speak to us. Sometimes if we are struggling with our mental health it can feel like nobody understands or is there to listen. We can turn to God for support and comfort if we maybe don’t feel like we are ready to talk to another person.

Like our scripture from yesterday “God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” He is always there ready to help and support us even when we don’t hear or listen to Him.

Let us give thanks to God for always being by our side and loving us unconditionally as we say the Glory Be.

Glory be to the Father

and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Day 3 – Hands

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

All of this week we have been looking at how God is always with us and how He can support us in our times of difficulty.

Today we are going to take some time to talk to God, ask him for help, thank Him for all His love or maybe say sorry for when you haven’t done what He asks.

Listen to the music and take some time to speak with God. Maybe close your eyes, place your head on your desk or find some paper and write a message to God. Have a conversation with Him this morning. Maybe this conversation with God will help you to know what your next steps could be.

We are going to bring all of our intentions back to the Lord by asking Mary to pray with us as we say the Hail Mary together.

Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
