Week 4 2023/24

Day 1 – Head

We begin our prayer today with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy spirit, Amen.

Today we are going the hear from the prophet Isaiah who tells us all that we are individuals who have different thoughts and actions and to let those who do wrong not influence us to do the same.

A reading from the Prophet Isaiah

Seek the Lord while he is still to be found, call to him while he is still near. Let the wicked man abandon his way, the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn back to the Lord who will take pity on him, to our God who is rich in forgiving; for my thoughts are not your thoughts, my ways not your ways – it is the Lord who speaks. Yes, the heavens are as high above earth as my ways are above your ways, my thoughts above your thoughts.

The word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

In the scripture we are told that our thought are our own and that we should allow the Lord to speak through us, to speak and think words of kindness and love. We should help others to turn away from evil and wickedness by guiding them back to the Lords pity and forgiveness.

Sometimes allowing God to speak through us is hard, sometimes we allow hurtful and damaging words through our minds. This challenge is what Isaiah wants us to face.

‘Let him turn back to the Lord who will take pity on him, to our God who is rich in forgiving’

When have you turned back to the Lord after doing, speaking or thinking something unkind?

How can you allow the Lord to speak through you more?

Let us give thanks to the Lord for his guidance and mercy as we say the Glory Be.

Glory be to the Father

and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen

We finish our prayer this morning with the sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy spirit, Amen.

Day 2 – Heart

We begin our prayer today with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy spirit, Amen.

Today we are looking deeper into yesterdays scripture on our individual thought and actions and how they can affect others. Isaiah tells us to allow the Lord to speak through our thoughts and words.

We are going to watch a short video which shows us how when we speak or think hurtful words, we add harmful labels to those around us which we may not see the effect of.

The video shows us what the outcome is when we allow kind and loving words to be spoken and thought. We are able to uplift someone’s day just by saying a kind word to them. Just how Isaiah says ‘the Lord who speaks’ it how we should speak and act towards each other.

We think about those who may need extra help during this month and how we can provide that help and aid. One way to do this would be to bring in either money or food on Friday for Harvest fast day. This day helps us to think about how fortunate we are and how we can support our local community.

Let us ask God for his guidance to speak, act and think in a kind, loving and giving way as we say together:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Day 3 – Hands

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Over the last few day we have been looking at Isaiah and his teachings of allowing God to speak through us to spread love and kindness. In the scripture Isaiah explains how the Lord is merciful and will want us to be the best we can be and will forgive us when we go wrong.

Take a moment to think about someone you look up to. What characteristic’s and skills do they posses. Discuss with the person next to you about their skills and characteristic’s.

Please comment with the person you look up to!!

We will now like you to think about these questions:

How can you be like them?

What are skills are you missing?

How can you learn those skills?

How can you apply skills you already know?

We would now like you to focus on one skill and work at trying to learn that skill. Whether that be learning to play an instrument or learning how to be more compassionate or learning how to control what you say to others.

Let us end our prayer give thanks to the Lord for his love and mercy as we say the Glory Be.

Glory be to the Father

and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
