Liturgical Season — Ordinary Time

September falls within Ordinary Time, the season in which we follow Jesus through his teaching and ministry and learn what everyday discipleship looks like. Green, the liturgical colour of the season, is a sign of life and growth.

Ordinary Time reminds us that holiness is not only found in great feasts and celebrations. We are called to follow Christ in the ordinary choices of daily life.

Monthly Focus — Season of Creation

The Season of Creation runs from 1 September until the feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4 October.

It is a time to thank God for the gift of creation, to recognise our place within it and to consider our responsibility to care for our common home.

The Bible begins with creation being declared good. Before the story of salvation becomes a story of rescue, it begins as a story of gift.

CST of the Month — Stewardship of Creation

Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that the earth is not simply a collection of resources for us to use. Creation belongs to God and has been entrusted to our care.

Human beings have a unique place within creation. We are called to cultivate it, protect it and use its gifts wisely. This means thinking carefully about how our choices affect the natural world, other people and future generations.

Care for creation is also closely connected with care for the poor. Environmental damage often affects most severely those who have contributed least to causing it.

Stewardship therefore begins with gratitude: recognising creation as a gift from God. But gratitude must lead to responsibility.
