Week 32: Trinity 16/06/25

The Trinity is a mystery that we can never fully understand, but it is a central part of our Catholic faith. The Trinity is the belief that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are distinct from each other, but they are also one God. This special feast helps us reflect on how we understand God and inspires us to get to know him more closely in our lives.

Day 1 – Head

On the first day of our prayer we will be reflecting on The Word of God to help us to understand our theme.

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

We heard last week about Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Today we are going to really look into who this is, and where He pops up in the Bible, and the other people in the Trinity.

The first time we hear of all the persons in the Holy Trinity at once is the Baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan.

As well as the name of Our School, the Trinity is also the name of God.

But what is the Trinity?

Why does it have to do with three people when there’s only one God?

Have a watch of one of these videos to help understand it a little bit more.

The Trinity in 90 Seconds

The Trinity | Catholic Central (6 mins)

How can God be a Trinity? (10 mins: explanation 7 mins, prayer 3 mins)

We have a series of statements about our faith that we call The Creed.

They centre around the Trinity, so today, as our prayer, we are going to say the parts relevant to God the Father.

We encourage you to say all of it together.

Let us pray:

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Day 2 – Heart

On the second day of the week we focus on our hearts. How can the scripture that we looked at previously impact our lives, and the lives of others? What themes can we draw from the scripture?

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

The Trinity is impossible for us to fully understand, but it is helpful to think about and try to understand.

In our Gospel reading, God the Father called God the Son His Beloved.

The God the Holy Spirit descended as a sign of God the Father’s love for God the Son.

To help this sink in, please take a moment to think about:

1. Someone you give love to

2. Someone who gives love to you

3. A way you could give love

Today, we are going to say the parts of the Creed related to Jesus, the Son, as our prayer.

We encourage you to say all of it together.

Let us pray:

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Day 3: Hands

On the final day of the week we try to put into action the things we have learnt and reflected on previously in the week, hence the hands link!

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Mission:

Think back to the three areas we asked you to think about on Day 2, your mission today is threefold:

  1. Take some time to thank God for His love
  2. Thank God for the people that love you
  3. Go out and give love in the way you thought of yesterday

Today, we are going to say the parts of the Creed related to the Holy Spirit, as our prayer.

We encourage you to say all of it together.

Let us pray:

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
